The PYLoT study was co-developed with a group of consulting adolescents. The purpose of having a consulting group was to build research skills in these youth while also having them give us their unique perspectives, which were very valuable for creating PYLoT. Through multiple meetings, these teens not only helped us develop the PYLoT study but also, with their feedback and ideas, helped our team create youth-friendly engagement strategies to be implemented throughout the study. Check out the infographic and quotes from our consulting group below for a deeper dive into how these youth shaped PYLoT!
"I'm happy with how the sessions have gone, personally. I think, I've… how do I put it? I'm glad I've been able to give my input and my insight.”
“It was really interesting to see the process of building out a study and all the stuff that needs to be taken into consideration. I also learned a lot more about the “name or labels” for things I’ve experienced in my mental health, gave me more insight about my experience.”
“I learnt a lot about how closely linked mental health may be to physical health. It made me feel better about my past because I was able to use it for good.”
“There is no right answer or established set of guidelines for issues surrounding communication, confidentiality, or health; especially with wildly differing demographics.”
“I learned about what goes into doing /planning a research project, which is cool.... and sitting in a room with people I don’t know, leaving my house and talking in front of others is a hard thing for me to do and something I’d never choose to do so go me I guess!”
“Contributing to the creation of a research study surrounding mental health made me feel like I was creating a real impact!”
“That outreach and study is a much more involved process than I had originally believed. I’ve learnt how advanced this part of studies can be.”
